Tiny Corolla Village sits under the sweep of the lighthouse beacon, quietly bearing vestiges of its past. With roots dating back to the early 1800's, what's left of the original village is a significant reminder of a former way of life. Those who never venture off Ocean Trail may never even notice it at all, for Corolla Village is tucked in the trees on the soundside of the island, practically overshadowed by the vacation world.
Those who seek it out, and are willing to delve a little deeper into it, are rewarded with rich history and a vital sense of place. Corolla Village does not look exactly like it used to - no place does - but the original buildings will speak of the past. Corolla Village's history isn't laid out for all the world to see. You have to imagine a little bit, read between the buildings, know the background of what you're seeing before you really start to feel the pull of the past.
